Consultation Digest Issue 33. 30 April 2019, success and disappointment in Glasgow and some big issue surveys for you to complete.

In this issue we have good news on Byres Road, bad news on Elmbank Street (again) but please rush to complete North Toryglen survey TODAY, followed by a more relaxed rush for the Infrastructure Call for Evidence (Item 1.2) and then tell Glasgow City Council what should be done to combat climate change (Item 1.6).

Consultation Extra: Renfrewshire Cycle Path Consultation Events are ON! Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 February – DO PLEASE ATTEND if you can.

Renfrew cycleway visualisation

Despite the disgraceful attempts of at least one Renfrewshire Councillor, we can now confirm that the Consultation Events for the much needed cycle lanes from Renfrew Town Centre east to the Glasgow boundary will go ahead tomorrow and Wednesday.

How the other 50% gets around

GoBike calls for a drastic overhaul on gritting priorities from Glasgow City Council. Almost 50% of Glaswegians don’t have access to a private car. For them walking and cycling is not active travel, but is how they get around. Transport Poverty is a real factor to a number of people in this city.

Last week saw ice return to Glasgow. At the same time the focus of getting Glaswgians to participate in active travel seemed to go out of the window. Footpath and cycle lanes were ice rinks. In the light of lots of disquiet from our members about the unjust priorities the council have set for gritting, we have decided it is time for action.

Consultation Digest Issue 25, 10 January 2019: Happy New Year with more progress on the South City Way, good news about Byres Road and feedback from Argyll and Bute and North Lanarkshire

For our first Consultation Digest of 2019, we have the details for the South City Way to reach across the Clyde, the promise of segregated cycle lanes on Byres Road and a great reach out to some news from Helensburgh and Motherwell. Lots, lots more in this mega-issue as desks were cleared for the end of 2018 and Glasgow, certainly, ups its game. Even Pollok Park gets a mention, so do read on.

Consultation Digest Issue 23, 04 December 2018, Get your support in for a 20mph default urban speed limit and major changes in Glasgow

Hopefully the Restricted Roads (20 mph Speed Limit) Bill, inspired by Mark Ruskell MSP, will bring a 20mph default speed limit to all of our towns and cities. In other news, private cars are to be filtered away from Union Street in Glasgow, a consultation for Toryglen, a consultation for all of East Dunbartonshire and some more …. Consultation Digest Issue 22, 20 November 2018: A bumper bundle of new consultations.

Cambridge Street visualisation (2018)

Good news: Glasgow City Council is looking to reduce traffic on Oswald Street and Union Street (pictured left) in an attempt to cut emissions. Not so good news is that no cycle lanes are proposed but see more detail in item 1.5. Excellent news: consultation is underway on improving walking and cycling on the “Underline”, (see Item 1.3) but bad news is that there is still no word on the status of contraflow for Elmbank Street to allow northbound cycle access to Sauchiehall Street (see Item 3.1 for this). We have lots more for you in this issue so do please read on. Continue reading “Consultation Digest Issue 22, 20 November 2018: A bumper bundle of new consultations.”

Consultation Digest Issue 19, 09 October 2018: Byres Road rethink, beyond Parkhead on the East City Way, and much more.

Many thanks to Iona for keeping you up-to-date so well while I was off on a big tour of Kenya – four weeks without getting on a bike – and what news there was. A massive rethink on Byres Road! Didn’t we all do well! That’s the power of lots of us letting people know our views, so please keep writing and answering those surveys. Let’s hope Byres Road does become as peaceful as this earlier publicity picture suggests, but with those all important segregated cycle lanes.
