In the centre…

Town centres dominate this issue – one in South Lanarkshire (visualisation in featured image, above) and no less than eight in East Renfrewshire! Elsewhere, North Lanarkshire’s consultations continue and South Ayrshire looks at car parking. Glasgow has a few projects in both the West End and in the north of the city – one of the latter links with East Dunbartonshire.

At the root…

As Spring approaches, there’s new life in grassroots Glasgow projects in the Southside, North East and some related projects in the West End. There’s also city centre and Nextbike news. East Renfrewshire are going big with five projects at once. North Lanarkshire have neighbourhood conservation areas and a few traffic orders.

East Dunbartonshire look at the A803 corridor with drop-in event TODAY in Bishopbriggs. However, there’s tragic news elsewhere in the area as a collision killed a 56-year old woman cycling on Manse Road, Bearsden. It involved an HGV driver, as many other fatal crashes have done in the past few months and previous years. GoBike would like to offer condolences to the woman’s family and friends.

Rising in the East…

An earlier Digest ahead of the last East Renfrewshire drop-in event for five further projects. GoBike hopes the person cycling on Ayr Rd who was involved in a recent collision with a bus driver can make a full recovery.

Glasgow has plans for air quality, two projects in the West End and one in the East End. North Lanarkshire has an order for ambulance parking and a conservation consultation.

Bearing East?

East Renfrewshire take their cycle tracks into town. East Dunbartonshire turn their back on the Bearsway to go rural. Moves to improve Glasgow’s air quality and conserve areas of North Lanarkshire. City streetspace allocation – favouring buses over bikes?

Yay! Third time lucky! GoBike ride today, 04 February

Yes, 6 brave souls headed out in the wind and rain for an excellent 15 miles – yes, just 15 miles of a ride, but we saw lots.

We saw football grounds, old and new, cycle tracks, parks (lots of), a museum or two, cycle infrastructure and rivers. We climbed hills and speeded down them, avoided dogs and their owners, just about missed cars crossing the South City Way and, despite the weather, had a great time.

Do join us next time, or the one after. The infrastructure ride planned for January, but delayed because of ice, will now be in April. For December’s ride, cancelled because of snow, check our website Rides page and we look forward to seeing you sometime.

Proposed development at former ExxonMobil site, Bowling

“The best laid schemes

…o’ Mice an’ Men, Gang aft agley.” Happy Burns Night! Rabbie lived in Dumfries for a while and this first issue of 2024 includes events on Galloway and Ayrshire’s hopes to become a new national park (before the bid goes to the Scottish Parliament). Also, there are updates on two City Deal plans for “relief roads” with question marks about active travel links around them.

In the Southside, there’s a day of workshops in Govanhill. A few pre-consultations for development plans close soon, followed by the Development Frameworks for Pollok and Easterhouse. Nextbike have a survey about new hire station locations. Traffic Orders have started to re-appear, including ones for Avenues Plus.
